Wee Read - My Body

Early Literacy Tip: Stop reading when your baby is fussy. Don’t be afraid to stop reading midway through the book if it is not working.

Books

Songs/Rhymes
All the Little Babies
Sung to: “Short’nin’ Bread”
All the little babies love bouncing, bouncing
All the little babies just to love bounce!
All the little babies love bouncing, bouncing
All the little babies just to love bounce!
Lean to the left, lean to the right
Hug that baby nice and tight!
--Katie at Sharing Soda

Fingers Like to Wiggle Waggle
Repeat with: way down low, on my knee.
--Mother Goose on the Loose by Betsy Diamant-Cohen. New York: Neal-Schuman Publishers, Inc., 2006.

Head and Shoulders, Baby
Head and shoulders baby, 123
Head and shoulders baby, 123
Head and shoulders, head and shoulders,
Head and shoulders baby, 123
Repeat with: Knees and ankles, tummy and back, shake 'em all.
--Katie at Sharing Soda

Three Little Monkeys
Three little monkeys jumping on the bed
One fell off and bumped his head!
Mama called the doctor and the doctor said,
“No more monkeys
Jumping on the bed!”
Continue to one little monkey.
-- Traditional

The Great Big Spider
--from Lapsit Services for the Very Young II by Linda L. Ernst. New York: Neal-Schuman Publishers, Inc, 2001.
*Ernst suggests using this version instead of its tiny counterpart because babies are able to use their gross motor skills before their fine ones. With this version, the young ones are able to participate more.

Eyes and Nose
--Storytime Crafts: Crazy Days by Kathryn Totten. Ft. Atkinson, WI: Upstart Books, 2004.
